June 6th 2003 was a land mark for the volunteers of Animals in Need 2000, a charity formed by a small group of people who wanted to make a difference. After 4 long years of laughter, tears and endless hours of fundraising our dream had become a reality. The Mayflower Sanctuary had been born. Although not the prince of facilities, we had a vision and will to restore, repair and rebuild. Now several years later, the Mayflower Sanctuary is going from strength to strength. Where an old caravan and 4 concrete garages stood, not forgetting the outside tap and lack of toilet, we now have two beautiful ‘dog houses’ with part under floor heating, puppy block and cattery.
All the mod cons, including kitchen and office. Annually The Mayflower Sanctuary rescue and rehome over 400 dogs and 90 cats. Last year our vets bill alone was £33,000! Without your support and donations this would have been impossible to achieve. Like many Rescue’s we can tell endless stories of sadness and heartache, sights we would rather forget but most have a happy ending.
Every dog and cat is neutered and vaccinated before leaving us for their new home. All potential homes are visited by a volunteer to make sure the right pet is chosen by the right family. Dogs and cats come to us for many different reasons, many financial, homeless some abandoned and unwanted. Whatever the reason its just not their doing and they all deserve a loving home with responsible people.
If you would like to help, there are many ways. Become a volunteer, help fund raise, collect old towels and blankets to keep the dogs cats warm. A small donation, monthly by standing order, no matter how small. You could also remember the homeless and neglected animals in your Will would be so important to them and us. It’s their future we need to secure. We cannot continue with out your help. Do come and visit us and see the work we do. We look forward to seeing you.
